Frequently Asked Questions

  • We offer supply and install of all types of timber doors and frames. You can see the types of doors we install here

  • Even if you’re not sure what doors you want yet, simply call us any time, send us an email or fill out the form on the home page and we can run through your options together.

  • When you hire AW Scott Doors, you get AW Scott (Anthony Scott) together with his 30 years experience. We don’t send an inexperienced apprentice in his place or send a salesperson for the initial quote.

  • We are based in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide, at Glen Osmond but we travel to anywhere in the metropolitan Adelaide area. From Gawler to Aldinga and even up into the Adelaide Hills.

  • Yes, just tell us what you need and we can usually give you an instant quote over the phone. For larger jobs it may require a free site visit. We don’t charge a call out fee.

  • Standard door heights typically measure 2040 mm or 2340 mm, while standard widths include 870, 820, 770, 720, 620, and 520 mm. We can shave down the door of your choice for a precise fit into your existing opening.

  • In older homes the framing has often settled and is no longer perfectly square. We can custom trim the new door to fit perfectly, or adjust or even replace the doorframe to suit.

  • While we can fit any size door, as Anthony usually works alone, if it is too heavy for one person to lift and carry, we will need to organise for another person to help install. This may mean organising a suitable time later in the week or on a weekend when help is at hand.

  • While we do not paint the doors personally, we work with a skilled painter who we can arrange to paint or stain your doors in the finish of your choice.

  • The total price for your project is determined by several things:

    • Material & Style: The composition and design you choose.

    • Dimensions & Layout: The size and opening configuration of the door.

    • Hardware: Handles, locks, and track mechanisms.

    • Framing Adjustments: Any work needed to fix out-of-square openings.

To avoid unexpected surprises, we can come out for a site visit to take accurate measurements, discuss your requirements and give you a detailed breakdown before committing.

  • Yes, we are fully licenced and fully insured. Our building licence number is BLD213974.

  • Anthony has been in the doors business for over 30 years, working for some of the most reputable doors businesses in Australia and the UK. Then AW Scott PTY LTD was first registered in 2013.

  • Yes. If you visit our google listing, you can read recent comments from some of our happy customers. You can also see some examples of our work on our transformations page.

  • Absolutely. If your hinged door is getting in the way and you would prefer it to swing the other way, I can fix that.

  • You can reach us anytime via our contact form on our home page, email us at anthony@scottdoors.com.au or call Anthony personally on 0404 403 472. We will respond as quickly as possible, even in an after hours emergency.

  • After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs. Because Anthony carries out all of the work himself and doesn’t answer to a big company, we can keep overheads to a minimum and pass the savings on to you, all while maintaining the best craftsmanship.

  • Anthony is punctual and his work professional. He also has a great ‘English’ sense of humour to make working with him enjoyable.

  • If your door has been damaged from a break-in, we can come out at any time for an emergency fix. We carry a range of doors in stock for just those emergencies.

  • Internal doors provide privacy and soundproofing and don’t need to be as secure and robust as external doors so the cost can be kept to a minimum. While external doors also need to stand up to the elements and provide a level of security and insulation so often cost more.

    • Internal Doors: Typically 35mm thick and constructed from engineered timber, composite materials, or hollow cores.

    • External Doors: Usually 40mm thick and built from robust, solid timber.

  • Yes we certainly can. We often get called out to trim doors down to size after new carpet, timber flooring or tile has reduced the gap between the bottom of the door and the old floor height.

  • If your house was built before the mid-1970s, you will likely encounter non-standard sizing:

    • Historical Standard: Most vintage entryways measure 77 inches by 29 inches.

    • Metric Equivalent: This converts roughly to 1960 mm high by 755 mm wide.

    • The Problem: Modern off-the-shelf metric units are typically larger and will not fit without modification.

    Stress-Free Installation with Trimmable Doors

To make replacing your door as easy as possible, we can source specific doors:

    • Pre-Sized for Replacements: Ranges designed specifically to match common mid-century Australian opening sizes.

    • With Trimming Allowances: that can be shaved down on-site.

  • The exact time depends on the size and layout of your space (whether you choose single or double doors, or add glass side panels etc).

    As a rough guide:

    • Standard Internal Door 1 to 2 hours

    • Standard External Door 2 to 4 hours

    • French Doors 3 to 5 hours

    • Sliding or Bifold Systems Half a day to a full day

    • Complex Layouts: Double doors, fixed side glass panels, or massive bifolding tracks add extra hours of labor.

    • If your original door frame is no longer square, we will need extra time to scribe, plane, and adjust the opening for a perfect fit.

    • Exterior units require heavier deadbolts, complex handle sets, and weatherproofing seals to block drafts and maintain home security, extending the process.

Anthony will handle the installation efficiently to guarantee a high-standard finish without causing disruptions to your day.

  • Yes. Once you’ve selected the doors you like, we will collect from the manufacturer and bring to your home as part of the service.

  • Yes. As part of our service, we dispose of your current doors in a responsible way, recycling them where possible.

  • There are two types of warranty we offer. Product warranty, which comes from the manufacturer and covers the door itself against defects in materials or construction. And then the workmanship/installation warranty, which covers the installation.

  • Anthony Scott will carry out the installation himself, together with his 30 years experience. He will sometimes call on the help of another professional for jobs that require the lifting of large, heavy doors.

  • Yes, no matter how small the job, we can help. Even if it’s just shaving a single door down to stop that pesky catching on the carpet or frame.
